The Parkbogen Ost is a visionary idea: A roughly 5 km long band with walking paths and cycling lanes and active areas surrounding the east of Leipzig. Due to the construction of the underground tunnel Leipzig City Tunnel, a section of the eastern railway arch was closed by the railway company Deutsche Bahn in December 2012. This eastern railway section is to form the centerpiece of the green area. This park will allow heterogeneous quarters to be connected to workplaces, green areas and architectural heritages.
The idea was brought forward by citizens of Leipzig, who came together to create the”Initiative Parkbogen Ost” and generated overwhelmingly positive response. The city administration has recognized the potential of the Parkbogen Ost at an early stage and is working since on its gradual implementation. In 2013, Bürogemeinschaft Gauly & Volgmann supported the Office of Urban Renewal and Residential Construction Subsidies in the development and coordination of work structures as well as in planning the strategic approach.
In 2016, Bürogemeinschaft Gauly & Volgmann supported the Office of Urban Renewal and Residential Construction Subsidies again in this project. bgh.worked in close cooperation with the city administration and the UrbanPlan GmbH, epUrban and LESG GmbH in the design and development of the masterplan of Parkbogen Ost. An important part of the project was the organization of citizen workshops, where the citizens of Leipzig were invited to get involved in the development process of the master plan.
